Student Fellowship Scheme for Research Postgraduate Students
The Centre for Medical Ethics and Law (CMEL) is a joint centre of the Faculty of Law and the LKS Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong (HKU). For more information about the centre, please visit https://www.cmel.hku.hk/.
Joining CMEL as Student Fellows
HKU research postgraduate students who meet the following requirements are invited to apply for appointment as a Student Fellow of CMEL:
- Each Student Fellow must be able to demonstrate academic excellence and/or professional practice knowledge or experience;
- Each Student Fellow must be willing and able to deliver 50 hours per year of research work to CMEL; and
- Each Student Fellow must arrange a Student Seminar or Conference for CMEL during the period of his/ her fellowship.
The choice of subject matter must be covered within the research areas of CMEL. The Student Fellows may either invite speakers from academic,
commercial, governmental, healthcare or voluntary institutions or deliver the Seminar or Conference themselves should they wish to do so.

Benefits
The Student Fellowships connect students to CMEL’s network of experts and give them an opportunity to work with CMEL’s faculty members on their research projects. It will be good for your CV. Student Fellows will also be placed on the mailing list of CMEL to receive news and event announcements. They will be able to attend CMEL’s seminars/conferences for free or receive a discount, should any registration fee be payable for the event.
Duration
Successful candidates will be conferred the Student Fellowship for one year (or for some other period as may be agreed with CMEL). Each Student Fellow will be considered for renewal every year until s/he writes to CMEL to terminate the fellowship or until his/her postgraduate studies at HKU ends.
Cost
Currently, no fee is payable by Student Fellows for their respective fellowships.
