This Second Edition is a comprehensive textbook on mediation for learners and qualified mediators from different backgrounds. Twenty-four chapters are grouped systematically to cover ADR spectrum and principles of mediation, development and the law governing mediation in Hong Kong; practice, processes and techniques of mediation; confidentiality in mediation; cross-cultural mediation; family mediation and mediation in different kinds of disputes which mediators may encounter. For the lawyers, there is a chapter specifically on advocacy in mediation and, for the healthcare practitioners, there is one on mediation in medical and dental disputes. A chapter on apologies in mediation is added to this new edition with the enactment of the Hong Kong Apology Ordinance in 2017. The speaker and commentators will provide an overview of the book, with a focus on medical and dental disputes. They will also discuss how healthcare providers who are not legally trained and non-healthcare professionals (lawyers in particular) could use this book.
