DR. JIAHUI DUAN

Dr Jiahui Duan is currently serving as an RGC Junior Research Fellow at the Faculty of Law, The University of Hong Kong (HKU), having previously held the position of Global Academic Fellow in the Faculty. She holds a JSD (Berkeley), LLM (Berkeley), and LLB (Shandong University). Her interdisciplinary research takes an empirical and socio-legal approach to the intersection of feminist jurisprudence, biotechnology, labour, and the law. Within the medical law sphere, Dr Duan critically examines the legal regulation of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) and reproductive rights. Specifically, her scholarship addresses the socio-legal dimensions of surrogacy, foetal personhood, oocyte cryopreservation (egg freezing), abortion access, and informed consent. Dr Duan’s work has been featured in leading academic journals, including the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law, Law & Society Review, and Law & Social Inquiry. She is currently advancing research projects related to the regulation of advanced genetic technologies and the liberalisation of social egg freezing.
